Nowadays, it is hard to get someone’s attention. People’s
attention spans are getting shorter and shorter by the day. It can be nearly
impossible to successfully deliver information to someone who is not drawn into
what you are presenting to them. Here are a few tips to help ensure to draw
people in and keep them interested.
Tip 1: Introduce an interesting statistic
Statistics can help draw people into your presentation. A
good statistic can put your reader in awe, which will then lead them to want to
find out more.
For example, if you are advertising a new healthy restaurant
that you are opening, you might want to state the fact that 74% of men in the
United States are overweight or obese. Reading this can interest a reader,
which will lead to them wanting to learn more about the statistic. The reason
why statistics draw people in is because it puts things into perspective. Everyone
knows that America isn’t the healthiest country, but no one really thinks about
it in detail. When you present this information to them, it will compel them to
take action.
Tip 2: Use a Quote
Quotes are a good way to get the brain flowing. Quotes can
help draw someone in because they are thought provoking. The quote should not
be by any random person. It needs to be someone who most people recognize. Having said that, you need to make sure your
quote is coming from a credible person. You want to find a quote from someone
who is appropriate for what you are talking about.
For example, if you want to attract someone into your
presentation about the Black Lives Matter movement, you wouldn’t want to use a
quote from a random celebrity like Miley Cyrus. You should use a quote from a
historical influential figure. Someone like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or
Malcom X would be more credible.
Tip 3: Ask a Question
A question can help draw someone into your presentation
because it makes them think about your topic. After they think about your
topic, they will feel the need to learn more. Questions can cause curiosity. By
having your reader curious about your topic, they will feel more compelled to
learn more about your topic. People will read more of your presentation so they
can find out the answer.
For example, if you are advertising beds, you might want to
ask the question, “why does your back hurt so much?” This will attract readers
because it appeals to many people. Many people have back pain and they are all
on the constant search to find a solution. Seeing a question like this will
motivate them to read more about your comfy beds that can end their back pain.
Tip 4: Include an eye-catching image
Pictures can help draw people into your presentation for a
couple of reasons. It takes less effort to look at a picture rather than
reading something. Having an eye-catching image can be the difference between
having some stop to read more about your presentation and them just ignoring
it. Pictures are able to express more than words. Pictures tend to be more
effective in drawing people in.
For example, say you are advertising trips to Hawaii. You
don’t want to tell them about how beautiful it looks; you want to show them in
an instant. People would much rather see the beautiful views the trip has to
offer, not read about them.
Tip 5: Use the right colors
Colors are a big part in capturing people’s attention.
People react to different colors in certain ways. You do not want your
presentation to be something boring that does not stand out. You want to use
colors that are bold and stand out. If you would like to learn more about which
colors you should use in your presentation click here to view our guide on Top 5 Colors to Increase Sales.

Actively involve your audience throughout your presentation to hold their attention. Incorporate interactive elements such as asking questions, conducting polls, or encouraging brief discussions. You can also integrate technology like live polling apps or interactive quizzes to make your presentation more engaging. When the audience feels actively involved, they are more likely to pay attention and retain the information you're sharing. At this time I'm stuck on my college research.
